Hybrid 2 Days Onsite/3 Days Remote in Washington, DC

Our client seeks a Lead Cybersecurity Engineer to design and implement enterprise security solutions across a hybrid federal environment. The role will lead engineering initiatives spanning threat detection, vulnerability management, and security architecture, while integrating security tools and supporting both cloud and on-prem infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with SOC, NOC, and incident response teams to enhance detection and response capabilities and will provide technical leadership to improve risk posture and operational effectiveness.

Rate: $95.00 to $100.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:
  • Lead enterprise cybersecurity engineering efforts across infrastructure, applications, and cloud environments.
  • Design, implement, and integrate security tools and platforms across the enterprise.
  • Provide hands-on support for cloud and on-prem security controls, configurations, and monitoring.
  • Coordinate and support vulnerability remediation efforts with infrastructure, application, and DevOps teams.
  • Contribute to security architecture design, including Zero Trust and defense-in-depth strategies.
  • Assess and mitigate technical risks across enterprise systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate with SOC, NOC, and incident response teams to enhance detection and response capabilities.
  • Support implementation of security controls aligned with federal standards and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain security documentation, architecture diagrams, and engineering standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.

Experience Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or related IT security roles.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise cybersecurity engineering, security tool implementation and integration, cloud and on-prem security support, vulnerability remediation coordination, and security architecture or technical risk support.
  • Experience working in complex enterprise or federal IT environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, principles, and best practices.
  • Technical environment familiarity preferred: Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, Rapid7 InsightVM, Veracode, Okta, CyberArk, Entra ID / Entra PIM, AWS, Azure (M365 G5), Intune, Microsoft Purview, Jira, Confluence, Device42, Xacta, Appian, Oracle, and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Preferred: experience with federal agencies or regulated environments (FISMA, NIST), Zero Trust architecture, DevSecOps, and certifications such as CISSP, CISM, and cloud security certifications for AWS or Azure.
  • Soft skills: technical leadership, problem solving, clear communication with technical teams and leadership stakeholders, ability to operate in mission-critical environments, and strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
