About the role
G3 is seeking highly motivated Digitization Specialists to support a critical National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) mission focused on the preservation and digitization of historical airborne and space-based imagery. This position supports large-scale film digitization operations at the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC) in Washington, DC. Digitization Specialists will perform hands-on scanning, processing, quality control, metadata management, and archival support functions using specialized GEOINT exploitation and digitization equipment. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of technical aptitude, attention to detail, operational discipline, and experience working within classified mission environments.

This position supports large-scale film digitization operations at the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC) in Washington, DC. Digitization Specialists will perform hands-on scanning, processing, quality control, metadata management, and archival support functions using specialized GEOINT exploitation and digitization equipment. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of technical aptitude, attention to detail, operational discipline, and experience working within classified mission environments.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve, inspect, handle, clean, repair, digitize, and properly store historical film imagery.
- Operate advanced scanning systems including Meridian Dragon Apex and Leica DSW700 scanners.
- Generate and process TIFF, GeoTIFF, NITF, and other GEOINT imagery formats.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of digitized imagery products.
- Organize and manage digitized outputs using established naming conventions and archival procedures.
- Transfer and manage digitized imagery across secure network repositories and removable media systems.
- Conduct metadata tagging, indexing, georeferencing, and image conditioning activities.
- Support long-term digital archival and storage management efforts.
- Assist with troubleshooting scanning equipment and software issues.
- Maintain accurate production metrics, tracking logs, and operational reporting.
- Follow all security, clean room, and operational handling procedures for classified and archival materials.
- Support preventative maintenance and calibration activities for scanning equipment.
- Coordinate with government personnel and mission stakeholders to fulfill customer imagery requests and operational priorities.
Required qualifications
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Experience handling or processing imagery, film, archival materials, GEOINT data, or digital media.
- Familiarity with image processing, scanning, or digitization workflows.
- Intermediate computer and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working within classified or secure operational environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow strict operational procedures and quality standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a mission-focused team.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with GEOINT exploitation tools or imagery analysis workflows.
- Familiarity with:
- ENVI
- ArcGIS
- GDAL
- NextStar
- Archive Manager
- IrfanView
- Google Earth
- Experience with TIFF, GeoTIFF, NITF, or related imagery formats.
- Experience with long-roll film scanners, microfilm systems, or archival scanning equipment.
- Knowledge of metadata tagging, orthorectification, or geospatial image conditioning.
- Understanding of Intelligence Community or Department of Defense security practices.
- Prior NGA, DIA, or IC mission support experience.
