Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Software Developer (Systems Software) to support the design, engineering, implementation, development, and maintenance of enterprise-quality mission systems, networks, and applications. This role will focus on cloud infrastructure automation, CI/CD implementation, infrastructure as code (IaC), containerization, system integration, and operational support within AWS environments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience building and maintaining cloud native infrastructure, automating deployment pipelines, supporting enterprise applications, and implementing DevOps best practices. This position requires expertise in AWS services, Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, Bash scripting, containerized environments, and infrastructure operations while supporting highly available, secure, and scalable enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise cloud infrastructure and application environments supporting mission-critical systems.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and CloudFormation to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of AWS resources.
• Configure, administer, and troubleshoot AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPCs, Security Groups, NACLs, IAM, CloudWatch, and other core cloud services.
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar automation platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and operational tooling using Bash and Python.
• Build, deploy, and manage containerized applications using Docker and associated container technologies.
• Integrate and deploy diverse technology solutions including AWS cloud services, opensource software, COTS/GOTS products, and custom-developed applications.
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions to support system availability, performance, and operational awareness.
• Administer and maintain self-hosted PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments, including installation, configuration, backup and recovery, high availability, and performance optimization.
• Support Git-based software development workflows, branching strategies, version control practices, and release management processes.
• Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, cloud architects, and cybersecurity teams to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
• Apply AWS architecture best practices, networking principles, IAM controls, and security standards across enterprise environments.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, integration, and application issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Support infrastructure and modernization efforts and continuous improvement initiatives to increase reliability, scalability, and automation.
Mandatory Skills
• Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Poly
• Hands-on experience writing, testing, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting AWS services including: EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, Security Groups, NACLs, IAM, CloudWatch, Other core AWS services.
• Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
• Strong scripting proficiency using Bash and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized application deployments.
• Experience integrating and deploying AWS cloud services, open-source applications, COTS/GOTS products, and custom-developed applications.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, AWS architecture best practices, IAM policies, and cloud security principles.
• Experience utilizing Git-based workflows, branching strategies, and version control best practices.
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Alertmanager, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience administering PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, including backup/recovery, high availability, installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with secrets management platforms such as AWS Secrets Manager or equivalent solutions.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and business continuity practices.
• Familiarity with API Gateway technologies and microservices architectures.
• Experience implementing AWS cost optimization and resource management strategies.
• Experience deploying and managing data platform technologies including: Apache Spark, Trino, Apache Ranger, Apache Iceberg, Apache Superset, Enterprise Data Catalogs.
• Familiarity with modern data lakehouse architectures and supporting infrastructure.
• Experience deploying, supporting, or maintaining AI/ML workloads and model-serving infrastructure.
• Experience mentoring team members on DevOps, cloud architecture, and automation best practices.
• Familiarity with additional observability platforms including Grafana and ELK Stack.
