Your role and responsibilities
The Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) plays a key role in enabling the secure, compliant, and effective delivery of IBM services to U.S. Government and other highly regulated clients. This position sits at the intersection of security operations, service delivery, and client engagement-partnering closely with internal stakeholders to ensure federal security requirements are consistently met while proactively managing operational risk.
In this role, you will help support mission-critical programs in complex, compliance-driven environments by driving coordination, oversight, and strict adherence to regulatory and contractual obligations.
As a trusted U.S. Government security professional, you will contribute to the IBM USG Corporate Security program, helping to protect people, property, and information. Your expertise will support leadership in making informed decisions related to security strategy, risk management, and compliance.

Required technical and professional expertise
• Expertise in Security Policy Development: Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive government security policies and procedures to safeguard people, property, and information.
• Advanced Risk Analysis Skills: Experience with conducting thorough risk analysis of proposed and existing sites, examining internal and external threats to determine necessary security measures.
• Data Privacy and Protection Expertise: Deep understanding of data privacy and information protection protocols, with experience in maintaining a safe and secure system environment for client and organizational information.
• Incident Management: Experience in supporting incident management processes, analyzing risks, and implementing measures to mitigate potential security breaches.
• Security Education and Awareness: Experience in disseminating security educational materials to promote awareness and best practices throughout an organization.
**Minimum DOD/DOW SECRET Clearance
Preferred technical and professional experience
• Physical Security Knowledge: Experience with requirements associated with the buildout and operations of Open Storage Areas or other USG accredited spaces.
• .In-depth knowledge of personnel security requirements and processing
• Policy and documentation expertise: visitor control, safeguarding, alarm procedures, 147 Forms, reading construction plans, Standard Operating Procedures, document and media control and policies/procedures for adherence to all required security controls.

- Security Policy & Program Support: Partner with the Facility Security Officer (FSO) to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive security policies and procedures aligned with federal regulations and client requirements.
- Program Coordination: Serve as a primary security point of contact for assigned government programs, ensuring seamless coordination and providing backup support across additional sites as needed.
- Facility Security Oversight: Support the physical security of DoD/DoE-cleared facilities, including environments with active Facility Clearances, Open Storage Areas, and other accredited spaces.
- Incident Management: Act as a central coordination point during security incidents-driving timely communication, documentation, escalation, and compliance with federal reporting requirements.
- Security Awareness & Training: Promote a strong culture of security by delivering education, guidance, and best practices across the organization.
