Description:The Senior Manager of System Safety & Airworthiness will lead all system-safety and airworthiness activities at Marietta, GA. This role is the primary authority for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving safety requirements that protect people, equipment, and mission readiness.
Core Responsibilities
• System-Safety Leadership - Direct the review of product systems, support equipment, facilities, and operational procedures to identify hazards, define safety criteria, and develop mitigation strategies.
• Certification & Continued Airworthiness - Create and execute comprehensive airworthiness certification plans, secure flight-clearance approvals, and manage ongoing airworthiness for U.S. and international accreditation.
• Safety Strategy & Continuous Improvement - Formulate a long-term system-safety strategy, drive continuous-improvement initiatives, and ensure government certification throughout development, production, and sustainment.
• Cross-Functional Coordination - Partner with program offices, internal stakeholders, and external customers to align proposals and contractual obligations with current safety and airworthiness processes, delivering timely submittals for flight-clearance milestones.
• Safety Documentation & Audits - Oversee the creation of safety documents that support test, operational, and customer requirements; conduct audits of operational areas and report on the effectiveness of the system-safety program.
• Team Management - Supervise a diverse safety team, handling recruitment, staffing, performance management, training, development, and recognition/disciplinary actions.
Basic Qualifications:
• Demonstrated expertise in safety analysis and hazard mitigation.
• Strong analytical thinking, business acumen, and the ability to translate safety requirements into actionable plans.
• Highly collaborative, organized, and proactive, with a track record of delivering superior work products under tight deadlines.
• Capable of operating autonomously while driving cross-functional teams toward safety-focused outcomes.
Desired Skills:
• Proven background in system-safety engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of MIL-STD-882, ARP-4761, and AC/AMF 25.1309, including the prescribed analysis techniques.
- Experience defining processes, training plans, and tool development.
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and/or Model Based Design and analysis tools
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff while influencing peers, supervisors, customers, and senior leadership.
• Direct experience with USAF, NAVAIR, DCMA, and/or FAA interfaces.
• Hands-on experience in air-system design.
• Strong leadership and project/program management track record.
• Experience presenting to and collaborating with executive leadership.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, presentation, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Proven success in coordinating airworthiness certification across internal technical teams and multiple international customers.
• Expertise in planning and directing tasks within a complex, multi-project organization; recognized as a MIL-HDBK-516 airworthiness subject-matter expert.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
Clearance Level: Secret with Investigation or CV date within 5 years
