Job Description

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as section supervisor over employees engaged in condition evaluation, test, repair, modification and overhaul of aircraft structural assemblies, components, and pans. Employees are engaged in identification, removal, and prevention of corrosion on assigned/authorized aircraft, and ground support equipment. Additionally, other employees are required to inspect machines, weld, repair aircraft pans and components. and to design and manufoc1urc support equipment used in all types of aircraft maintenance. Provides training to reservists in the accomplishment of task herein.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the the WG-3800 - Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

    The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead or supervise as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Supervisor.

    JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of the trade(s) and/or craft(s)supervised. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices. and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment.
  • Knowledge in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools. equipment. and precisionmeasuring and/or 1est equipment. Knowledge in troubleshooting, inspecting. and/or tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches. and technical specifications. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
  • Ability to implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying the full range of conventional and/or computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining principles, processes, and techniques. in addition, welding procedures.
  • OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
  • This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
  • May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.). Hours of straight pulling arc 1 hour per week. Hours of pushing arc I hour per week. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking arc 4 hours per week. Hours of standing are IO hours per week. Hours of crawling are 1 hour per week. Hours of kneeling are I hour per week. Hours of repeated bending arc 3 hours per week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck. tractor, or motor vehicle may be required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches co 16 inches co Jaeger I co 4. Far vision correctable in one eye co 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability Ill distinguish basic colors. Hearing (without aid).

    ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive noise. intermittent. Constant noise. Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. Working around machinery with moving pans. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working closely with others. Required to wear safety glasses when performing eye hazardous operations.
