The mission of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) is to unleash the full potential of America’s hydrocarbon and geothermal resources to provide affordable, reliable, and secure energy.

This position serves HGEO’s Office of Geothermal (OG). OG’s mission is to accelerate the discovery and development of gigawatt-scale geothermal energy and position geothermal as a competitive domestic source for reliable baseload electricity generation. OG works in partnership with industry, academia, DOE national laboratories, and others on research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities. OG’s activities focus on technology R&D, pilots and demonstrations, and commercial scale-up in enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), hydrothermal resources, and thermal energy storage.

This position would support work mainly within the following OG portfolio:
• Pilots and Demonstrations: Focuses on enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) demonstration projects as well as reservoir improvements for EGS and thermal energy storage.

Position Responsibilities:
BGS has a need for a Technical Project Monitor that will directly provide scientific, engineering, and technical support to projects in OG.

Specific position responsibilities include:
• Project monitoring of geothermal RD&D awards from inception to close-out in collaboration with OG federal staff, from developing notice of funding opportunities to project retrospectives. Specific tasks may involve:
o Negotiating new award packages.
o Tracking award research progress (scope, schedule, and budget) through quarterly report review.
o Reviewing and providing input to interim project deliverables and final technical reports.
o Coordination, communication, and meeting preparation/scheduling with internal and external stakeholders in support of OG-funded projects.
o Processing and tracking award modifications using a variety of government systems.
o Merit reviews of submitted research proposals/funding applications.
• Supporting the development, coordination, and management of competitive solicitations and merit reviews.
• Engaging with OG stakeholders on an appropriate level to ensure needs and gaps are being addressed where possible at the Federal level.
• Assisting in the development of internal briefing materials for decision makers and contributing technical reviews of external communications.
• Successfully representing the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners.
• Assisting in coordination efforts with government agency partners external to OG.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline (Petroleum Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, etc.).
• 5+ years of experience.
• Client/stakeholder relations.
• Professional attitude.
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, and Teams.
• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
• Ability to balance multiple long- and short-term projects with competing priorities.
• Familiar with geothermal technologies.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Successful drug screening.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• Expertise in reservoir systems, drilling/well construction, well completion design, reservoir characterization, production/injection operations and/or geothermal reservoir systems are strongly desired.
• Project management and coordination experience/PMP certification is a plus.
• Ability to actively track and monitor government-funded research and development projects.
• Experience working within DOE.
• Self-starter, an ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team.

Location/Work Arrangement:
• This position can be located in Golden, CO or Washington, DC and is a Hybrid Work Arrangement.
• Employees in the role are expected to report to the office a minimum of 2 days per week.
• Schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday 40-hour week.

Starting compensation for this role typical salary ranges between $75,000 and $100,000 annually is commensurate with experience relative to the position and may vary based on candidate geographical location.
