Job Description
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a Scientist 2/3 to serve as the Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead supporting the W93/Mk7 program—the first new U.S. nuclear weapon system developed in over 30 years.
This individual will lead the team responsible for the development, qualification, and realization of polymer-based weapon system components. The role requires close collaboration with LANL organizations, Production Agencies across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, and external stakeholders including:
• Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC)
• Sandia National Laboratories (SNL)
• Lockheed Martin Space
• Department of Energy (DOE/NNSA)
• U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP)
The selected candidate will oversee planning, requirements management, interface coordination, testing, execution, status reporting, and successful delivery of producible, qualified designs.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead planning and execution of polymer component product realization efforts
• Coordinate across multiple engineering and production teams
• Manage technical requirements, interfaces, and design activities
• Drive testing, qualification, and certification activities
• Present technical findings and project status to leadership and stakeholders
• Support delivery of production-ready, Mark Quality products
• Collaborate with internal LANL organizations and external Production Agencies
• Solve complex technical challenges using innovative approaches

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
Technical Experience
• Significant experience in one or more technical research and development disciplines
• Demonstrated understanding of scientific integrity principles
• Experience developing and executing technical R&D projects
• Experience formulating and testing hypotheses
• Experience investigating alternative technical solutions and recommending outcomes
• Experience presenting technical findings to engineering and scientific audiences
• Strong understanding of safe laboratory, engineering, or research practices
• Ability to solve complex, multi-variable technical problems
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field from an accredited university
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
• Research experience at a university, national laboratory, or equivalent technical environment

• Knowledge of:

o Material compatibility and interactions
Engineering & Product Development
• Strong GD&T knowledge
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Requirements engineering experience
o Requirement creation
o Validation
o Verification
• Product realization experience from concept through qualified production
• Familiarity with Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS)
Security Clearance
• Active DOE Q Clearance preferred
• Equivalent DoD clearance considered
• Must be eligible to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
