Position: Health Services Assistant - Materials Handler
Location: Silver Spring, MD-On-Site Only
Hourly Rate: $28.00 & $5.08 H/W
A Health Services Administration Assistant in a pathology or joint pathology laboratory provides vital logistical, clerical and data management support to pathologists and clinicial staff ar.JPC's Department of Consultative Services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Case & Record Management: Accurately process incoming clinical cases and materials from contributors.
- Database Tracking: Perform data entry into specialized healthcare systems, such as the Joint Pathology Information Management System (JPIMS).
- Quality Assurance (QA): Participate in Root Cause Analyses, track QA forms for case reviews (e.g., Tumor Boards), and investigate Non-Conformance Reports.
- Correspondence: Serve as the central point of contact, answering inquiries from clinical staff, contributors, and leadership.
- Material Accountability: Track and maintain the physical accountability of delicate clinical case materials and biopsy logs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of administrative or clerical experience in a healthcare, medical office, laboratory, hospital, or pathology environment.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in bio-hazardous/chemical handling, warehouse operations, or a clinical/pharmaceutical laboratory setting.
- Experience performing data entry and maintaining electronic records/databases with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and healthcare information management systems.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clinical staff, contributors, and leadership.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to accurately track and maintain accountability of clinical case materials.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and resolve routine administrative issues.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
- Associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Administration, or related field.
- Experience working within a pathology, laboratory, or military medical environment.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare documentation processes.
- Experience using JPIMS or similar healthcare information management systems.
