Job Description

QSI is seeking a Data Scientist for our Government client in Portsmouth, NH. The Data Scientist supports the Visa Office (VO/DO/I), providing advanced analysis of visa-related data to inform CA and other government agencies. The position serves as a Subject Matter Expert in data analysis, producing insights, forecasts, and reports that support senior-level decision-making and operational policy. An active DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.

The role involves advanced statistical analysis, forecasting, and data modeling to support consular operations and visa workload management. The analyst transforms large datasets into actionable insights to inform staffing, resource allocation, and policy decisions across domestic and overseas offices. Using tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R, and Python, the incumbent develops dashboards, predictive models, and executive-level reporting while communicating complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Duties/Requirements/Qualifications

  • Apply advanced statistical and economic analysis to large-scale visa and consular workload datasets to identify trends, patterns, and operational drivers.
  • Develop forecasting models to project workload demand, staffing requirements, and resource allocation needs across global consular operations.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze data using SQL (primary tool) to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of analytical outputs.
  • Build predictive and statistical models using Python and/or R to support scenario analysis and forecasting.
  • Design and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI and/or Tableau to support executive decision-making.
  • Produce advanced reports, charts, and automated analyses using Microsoft Excel, including macros, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
  • Integrate and validate data from multiple internal and external systems, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear written reports, briefings, and presentations for senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct independent research using policy, regulatory, and operational sources (e.g., FAM, INA) to support analysis.
  • Support workforce planning, budget formulation, and resource allocation decisions through quantitative modeling and analysis.
  • Evaluate operational scenarios and policy impacts using statistical and data-driven methodologies.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance analytical dashboards and ensure end-users are trained in interpretation and use.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, forecasting accuracy, and analytical efficiency.
  • Perform detailed data validation and quality control across large and complex datasets.
  • Manage multiple analytical priorities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, validate data, and support analytical initiatives.
  • Respond to inquiries from leadership and stakeholders with accurate, timely, and professional analysis.
  • Develop working knowledge of Department of State consular operations, visa policy, and reporting methodologies within the first 4-6 weeks of employment.
  • Perform additional analytical duties and special projects as assigned.


Education / Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Policy, or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, or applied quantitative research.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience using analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing economic, geographic, or socioeconomic data and producing actionable insights.
