Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the HALEU (High Assay Low Enriched Uranium) project, a DOE-funded initiative expanding uranium enrichment capabilities. This role supports large-scale, capital-intensive design and engineering efforts, working alongside EPC contractor teams to deliver complex industrial and nuclear infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in I&C systems design, large project execution, and regulatory compliance within high-value environments.

Work Environment:
- On-site engineering role in Greenville, SC or Houston, TX supporting a major DOE-funded nuclear infrastructure project with collaboration across engineering and construction teams.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams supporting I&C system design and implementation.
- Perform and review a broad range of I&C design activities including control systems architecture, PLCs, DCS, digital control systems, and network configuration.
- Support development and review of P&IDs, logic diagrams, HMI systems, communication protocols, and system layouts.
- Interpret and apply national, state, and local codes (including NFPA 70 ) and customer design requirements to engineering documentation and specifications.
- Review construction documents and ensure alignment with design intent and compliance requirements.
- Develop and review engineering calculations, system specifications, and design documentation.
- Support procurement activities for control systems and instrumentation components.
- Prepare cost estimates and project schedules for engineering deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, and process disciplines.
- Support design through project startup and commissioning activities for large-scale systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
- 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering.
- Strong experience designing and supporting control panels and industrial control systems .
- Experience supporting large CapEx projects (>$100M) .
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA 70 or equivalent electrical codes.
- Experience with computer-aided design tools such as STAAD or RISA .
- Strong understanding of control systems, process automation, and industrial instrumentation.
- Ability to lead technical efforts and mentor junior engineers.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting nuclear, energy, or large industrial infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with safety systems, SIL, and high-reliability system design.
- Experience supporting EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environments.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Compensation: $170,000 - $215,000 annually
