Job Description
Description
Application deadline: Jun 7, 2026
At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on Earth. Amazon is a place where builders can build. We hire the world's brightest minds and offer them an environment in which they can invent and innovate to improve the experience for our customers.
The Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) Data Center Infrastructure Operations organization is looking for an individual with proven skills to join the ADC Facility Operations Center (FOC). The ADC FOC is responsible for 24/7 monitoring of data center physical infrastructure across air-gapped, isolated environments hosting classified workloads with no connection to the public internet.
The ADC FOC Technical Specialist is responsible for ensuring global continuity in training, qualifications, certifications, event management, and program delivery across multiple ADC FOC instances. The role combines technical subject matter expertise in data center infrastructure with the ability to develop and maintain programs that raise the technical bar, drive operational excellence, and deliver measurable improvements to the ADC FOC operation.
The Technical Specialist may own one or more of the following program areas: training development and qualification pathways, event management quality and optimization, or new site launch and colocation program delivery. All Technical Specialists operate as force multipliers for the ADC FOC, ensuring consistent standards, knowledge transfer, and program execution across all regions and partitions.
The ADC FOC Technical Specialist manages medium-to-high impact projects from conception to completion. These projects involve independent work and collaboration with internal and external support groups including engineering, controls, automation, DCEO, and data analytics teams. The role trains and supports ADC FOC engineers in their 24/7 monitoring and alarm notification responsibilities, including implementation of site, equipment, and design-specific training exercises covering EPMS, BMS, controls monitoring equipment, stand-by diesel generators, transformers, switchgear, breakers, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, and VFDs.
Operating within air-gapped environments presents unique challenges. The ADC FOC cannot leverage commercial FOC tooling directly, and extracting operational data requires additional controls, engineering systems, and customer approvals. The Technical Specialist will develop ADC-specific solutions, build and maintain programs that scale with the growth of the ADC business, and collaborate with commercial teams to share knowledge and adopt best practices where applicable.
The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert in data center infrastructure across various ADC data center designs. They will ensure overall availability and reliability meets or exceeds defined service levels. If you are passionate about the customer experience, think and act globally, and want to contribute to the operational excellence of Amazon Data Centers, this may be the role for you.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
- Operate independently with limited direct management across air-gapped ADC environments.
- Act as a technical escalation point for ADC FOC engineers and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Own and deliver one or more global ADC FOC programs, which may include but not limited to: training development and qualification pathways, event management quality and optimization or new site launch and colocation program delivery.
- Design, create, and launch learning content, practical assessments, workshops, web-based training, and instructor-led training programs. Measure and report on training health across all regions.
- Facilitate and deep dive customer-impacting events. Serve as the FOC point of contact in the Correction of Error (COE) process. Review After Action Reports (AARs) and drive global implementation of action items.
- Locate systemic infrastructure issues using data-driven analysis to drive solutions.
- Develop, update, and maintain ADC FOC runbooks to ensure consistent processes across all regions.
- Refine existing processes and create new standard processes for ADC FOC engineers and Team Leads. Create and maintain all ADC FOC technical documentation globally.
- Liaise with commercial FOC teams to share knowledge, adopt best practices, and align processes where applicable.
- Conduct drills that are region, building, or design-specific and identify team and individual growth opportunities. Establish performance benchmarks and conduct audits to drive effectiveness.
- Coordinate with partner teams during new site launches to ensure seamless implementation of FOC services and reduce burdens on existing operational workloads.
- Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience. Deliver global projects while influencing stakeholders through reports, process improvements, and narratives.
- Drive ownership of organizational and team-level goals.
- Mentor and guide the career growth of ADC FOC team members across regions.
- Work outside normal business hours to support the 24/7 operation of the ADC FOC.
- Travel is required.
A day in the life
The ADC FOC Technical Specialist operates across multiple ADC regions and clusters in air-gapped environments. Depending on the specialism, a typical day may involve reviewing event data and AARs to identify improvement opportunities, developing training content for upcoming qualification assessments, coordinating new site launch milestones with partner teams, progressing program deliverables, or collaborating with controls, DCEO, and commercial FOC teams. You will balance strategic program delivery with hands-on technical support, ensuring the ADC FOC maintains the highest operational standards across all regions.
