Job Summary

B&A is seeking an Ontologist to support the USSOUTHCOM J26 Enhanced Domain Awareness program. This role focuses on the development and management of ontologies, semantic data models, and knowledge frameworks to support advanced data integration, analytics, and decision-making capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in semantic technologies, SPARQL query development, ontology engineering, and W3C standards such as RDF, OWL, and SHACL, along with experience supporting DevSecOps and geospatial data environments.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain ontologies and semantic data models
  • Develop advanced SPARQL queries to support data retrieval and analytics
  • Utilize W3C Web Ontology Language (OWL) for ontology engineering and semantic frameworks
  • Apply semantic standards including RDF, OWL, and SHACL
  • Support ontology-driven application development using Java and Python
  • Automate processes and workflows using Bash scripting
  • Work with Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) and Common Core Ontologies (CCO)
  • Support geospatial data analysis and integration using ESRI tools and ArcGIS
  • Participate in DevSecOps environments utilizing Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to support semantic interoperability and enterprise data integration
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and scalability of ontology and semantic data architectures
  • Support troubleshooting, optimization, and documentation of semantic systems and frameworks

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree or higher (MS or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Science, GIS, Data Science, Business Analytics, Cognitive Science, or related field required
    OR
  • Minimum of eleven (11) years of professional experience in ontology development and semantic technologies
  • Experience designing ontologies and semantic data models in enterprise environments
  • Experience supporting semantic interoperability frameworks and ontology-driven systems
  • Experience working with geospatial and analytics-focused data environments preferred

Required Skills
  • Advanced SPARQL query development skills
  • Strong knowledge of W3C standards including RDF, OWL, and SHACL
  • Experience with ontology design and semantic data modeling
  • Strong understanding of Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) and Common Core Ontologies (CCO)
  • Proficiency in Java and Python development
  • Experience with Bash scripting and automation
  • Hands-on experience with ESRI tools and ArcGIS
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps methodologies and secure development practices
  • Experience using Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in technical environments
  • Ability to support ontology-driven enterprise applications and semantic integration efforts
