Job Description

Description

  • Assessing ISP and OSP for both fiber and copper against planned network infrastructure upgrades and making layer 1 recommendations to support layers 2-7 architectures
  • Scoping, building bill of materials, receiving, accounting for and installing SM and MM fiber as well as copper as needed throughout base office buildings, warehouses, production facilities and other related spaces
  • Applying fiber and copper best practices to define a baseline
  • Performing installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper)
  • Ensuring grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes
  • Performing testing and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems
  • Ensuring transmission fundamentals of copper and fiber media are maintained
  • Ensuring rodding, roping, and fiber splicing and tipping are properly performed
  • Troubleshooting communications systems to determine if problems are related to hardware or cabling
  • Testing and evaluating newly installed or existing hardware to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility
  • Using technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets establishment requirements
  • Visiting vendors to learn about available products, enhancements, or services
  • Compiling, reviewing and/or submitting drawing updates, reports, such as site reports or project status reports

Requirements

  • Five plus years of related telecommunications experience working as a Cable Technician within a DoD IT environment
  • Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards
  • Must be well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters
  • Experience analyzing, administering, and maintaining a telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure
  • Experience dressing, terminating, and testing cables and component, must have ability to work with power tools and ladders
  • Experience testing, locating, installing, and repairing cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls and performing routine maintenance
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing voice and data communications systems
  • Experience identifying, tracking, and removing abandoned cable and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety stand

Desired Skills

  • Familiary with DoD processes and environments
  • FOA or BICSI certifications are a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with using an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and power meters to test signal loss and map cable routes

SRC IS A CONTRACTOR FOR THE U.S. GOVERNMENT, THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE U.S. CITIZENSHIP AS WELL AS, A U.S. GOVERNMENT SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE SECRET LEVEL
