Job Summary
NALEJ Corporation is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate the cloud-native infrastructure and platform services that power the company’s next-generation AI, technology, and defense solutions.
This role is intended for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and building scalable, resilient systems that support mission-critical workloads. The ideal candidate possesses deep experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, automation, infrastructure-as-code, platform security, observability, and modern software delivery practices. This individual must be capable of operating across architecture, implementation, and operational support while remaining actively engaged in engineering execution.
The Senior Platform Engineer will work closely with software engineers, AI engineers, product teams, cybersecurity personnel, and executive leadership to establish and maintain the technical foundation upon which NALEJ's products, services, and customer solutions are built. The position requires an engineer who can balance long-term architectural thinking with immediate operational execution and who thrives in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment.
This role will support the development and deployment of AI-enabled capabilities, cloud-native applications, hybrid infrastructure solutions, and defense-focused technology platforms. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing distributed systems, deploying infrastructure, troubleshooting production environments, and automating repetitive operational tasks.
Responsibilities
• Design, deploy, and maintain cloud-native infrastructure supporting NALEJ products, internal systems, and customer-facing environments.
• Build and operate Kubernetes-based platform services across AWS, GovCloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premises environments.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
• Design and implement secure CI/CD pipelines supporting automated software delivery and platform operations.
• Manage containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and associated orchestration technologies.
• Develop automation solutions that improve platform reliability, deployment speed, operational efficiency, and security posture.
• Implement observability capabilities including monitoring, logging, alerting, tracing, and platform performance reporting.
• Support deployment and operationalization of AI-enabled applications, agentic workflows, retrieval systems, and large language model (LLM) services.
• Collaborate with AI engineers and software developers to ensure infrastructure can support current and future AI workloads.
• Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions across engineering teams.
• Implement security controls aligned with Zero Trust principles and defense industry best practices.
• Support vulnerability remediation, platform hardening, identity management, and secure system configuration efforts.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning applications, infrastructure, networking, containers, and cloud services.
• Support disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, business continuity efforts, and platform resiliency initiatives.
• Assist with Authority to Operate (ATO), RMF, NIST, and other compliance-related activities supporting government customers.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and technical best practices.
• Support customer-facing technical engagements, demonstrations, solution design discussions, and implementation planning as required.
Job Requirements / Skills
• Active TS Clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related technical field required. Equivalent experience may be considered.
• 7+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating cloud-native platforms, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience with AWS cloud services and modern cloud architecture patterns.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes, Docker, container orchestration, and microservices environments.
• Experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, load balancing, DNS, routing, firewalls, TLS, and cloud networking concepts.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
• Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience implementing monitoring, observability, and operational telemetry solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, or similar platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, cloud services, networking, operating systems, and applications.
• Familiarity with security engineering concepts including identity management, secrets management, encryption, vulnerability management, and Zero Trust architectures.
• Experience supporting production environments with high availability, reliability, and security requirements.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Key Tasks
• Assess and document the current state of NALEJ's cloud, platform, and infrastructure environments.
• Develop and maintain a platform modernization roadmap supporting scalability, automation, security, and operational excellence.
• Establish standardized Infrastructure-as-Code deployment patterns and platform engineering practices.
• Build and maintain Kubernetes environments supporting current and future product development efforts.
• Improve CI/CD maturity through automation, testing integration, deployment standardization, and operational monitoring.
• Implement observability dashboards, platform health reporting, and operational metrics for engineering leadership.
• Evaluate platform security posture and recommend improvements aligned with Zero Trust principles.
• Support deployment and operationalization of AI-enabled applications and supporting infrastructure.
• Identify opportunities to reduce operational overhead through automation and engineering efficiencies.
• Partner with software engineering, AI engineering, cybersecurity, and leadership teams to establish platform priorities and technical standards.
• Create and maintain platform documentation, operational runbooks, and engineering best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and engineering support during critical production incidents and customer deployments.
