Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology to join a government-focused infectious disease research program for a contract-to-hire position located onsite in Fort Detrick, MD. The Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology will support microbiology and molecular biology initiatives within a high-containment laboratory environment focused on biodefense and medical countermeasure development.
Responsibilities of the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology include:
· Conduct bacteriology-based experiments, including culture, isolation, and characterization of bacterial organisms in controlled lab settings
· Execute molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and cloning-related activities
· Support cell culture workflows and biochemical assays, including protein analysis and cell viability testing
· Assist with research studies involving animal models, including preparation, dosing, sample collection, and documentation
· Maintain laboratory operations by managing supplies, equipment upkeep, safety compliance, and accurate data tracking
Qualifications for the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology include:
· Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field
· Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or infectious disease research
· Working knowledge of PCR, electrophoresis, DNA prep, and microbial culture techniques
· Willingness to work with animal models and within BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory environments
· Ability to obtain a Secret clearance and meet federal program requirements
Compensation for the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology:
Salary Range: $32-$36/hr (USD)
