Title: WebSphere Engineer
Client: US Navy
Location: McLean, VA (remote)
Clearance: Active Secret or above
Position Overview:
The WebSphere Engineer will support the U.S. Navy’s enterprise application infrastructure by administering, maintaining, and securing IBM WebSphere environments. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) environments
• Manage WebSphere ND (Network Deployment), clusters, nodes, and application deployments
• Configure JVM settings, data sources, connection pools, and security policies
• Perform performance tuning and capacity planning
• Troubleshoot application, middleware, and integration issues
• Apply patches, fix packs, and version upgrades
• Manage SSL certificates and secure communications
• Support integration with web servers (IBM HTTP Server / Apache)
• Ensure compliance with DoD STIGs, RMF, and cybersecurity policies
• Work closely with application developers, database administrators, and system engineers
• Develop and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams
Required Qualifications:
• Active Secret clearance (or higher)
• 3–5+ years of experience administering IBM WebSphere Application Server
• Experience with:
o WebSphere ND and standalone environments
o Linux/UNIX and/or Windows Server environments
o Application deployments (EAR/WAR files)
o SSL configuration and security hardening
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting DoD or Navy environments
• Familiarity with IBM HTTP Server (IHS)
• Experience with scripting (Jython, wsadmin, Shell, or PowerShell)
• Knowledge of middleware integrations (JMS, MQ, JDBC)
• Experience with WebSphere Liberty
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
