As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will oversee the end-to-end mechanical design of a complex missile system under development. This will include management of mechanical interfaces, resolution of mechanical integration issues through coordination between suppliers and internal design teams through all phases of the lifecycle. Day to day activities will include technical leadership of a multi site team, planning future activities, briefing leadership on progress and challenges, and driving integrated technical solutions to closure.
In this role, you will:
• Participate in issue resolution and develop solutions to technical problems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical content and timely closure.
• Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses necessary to support product build and testing activities.
• Generate and release drawings using CAD software.
• Be a member of multiple integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other engineers, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and customers.
• Represent the organization in design reviews, readiness reviews, and review boards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to supervise the build and test of the hardware in the production facility located next door to the engineering building.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited school
- Proven knowledge of core mechanical engineering fundamentals, including structural analysis, material behavior, and engineering calculations.
- Strong proficiency with modern engineering CAD platforms (e.g., Creo, I DEAS, SolidWorks, or comparable tools) and model based product definition workflows.
Clearance Requirements
- Ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired Skills:
- Creo and CAD data management (EPDM) experience
- Knowledge of composite structure design and fabrication
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation
- Experience with test methods, planning and execution
- Experience working with other LM operating units
- Experience working with suppliers
- Functions well in a creative, high-tempo, collaborative, cross-functional, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary environment
- Familiarity with LM Space processes, procedures, and tools (including EPDM/Windchill)
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with model-based definition (Data Set Rating 6)
- Highly proficient with Creo Parametric
- Experience supporting production of missile
or spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast changing environments, adapting to evolving requirements and dynamic project schedules.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills, with a track record of conveying complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Active DoD Secret clearance
