Job Description

Duties

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

- Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.

- Performs inspections and troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.

- Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. Directs a crew of up to 9 personnel in jacking and leveling of the aircraft.

- Acts as the Team Lead responsible for overseeing work on Crash Damaged Disabled Aircraft Recovery (CDDAR) operations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as flight control systems, instrumentation systems, landing gear assemblies, cargo ramp and door systems, and personnel door systems.

2. Knowledge of a wide variety of parts, components, subsystems, and assemblies such as gearboxes, linkages, actuators, and control cable systems.

3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to rig, function test, or troubleshoot systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced; and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed.

4. Knowledge of supply procedures, the publication order system, and documentation procedures. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.

5. Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment including fixtures, templates, scales, teststands, and external power sources.6. Skill in reading and understanding data and settings from cockpit instruments and gauges.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
Lifting can range from light (under 15 pounds) to heavy (over 45 pounds). Carrying can range from light (under 15 pounds) to heavy (over 45 pounds). Hours of straight pulling are 1 hour per day. Hours of pulling hand over hand are 1 hour per day. Hours of pushing are 1 hour per day. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 hours per day. Hours of standing are 4 hours per day. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and 20/100 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (without aid). If it can be otherwise accommodated, specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

May be required to work from mobile maintenance platforms (calavar or equivalent) and may be required to work in confined areas of the aircraft.
