Description:
Lockheed Martin (MFC) is seeking a Materials Engineer to support the Orlando, FL site. The engineer will be working in the Applied Research optical-materials lab. This position offers immersive experience in a research environment where cutting-edge optical-device technologies are developed for aerospace and defense applications. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, micro- and nano-scale fabrication, and characterization of photonic engineered components, including meta-optics, photonic integrated circuits, and quantum optical devices. Candidate must be proficient in full wave simulation design, including but not limited to Python/Julia, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, Zemax OpticStudio, Lumerical FDTD, COMSOL Multiphysics. For the nano/micro-fabrication work, the applicant should be experienced with lithography and 3D laser write systems. The role also involves extensive material-characterization activities that span optical, structural, and mechanical domains. This position provides valuable exposure to the full product-development lifecycle, from material selection and prototype fabrication to performance validation and documentation.

Basic Qualifications:
Engineer must have a PhD degree in optics, physics, material science or related discipline, from an accredited university.
Desired Skills:
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Proficient in Python/Julia, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, Zemax OpticStudio, Lumerical FDTD, COMSOL Multiphysics.
- Proficient in micro- and nano-scale fabrication including lithography and 3D direct laser write with emphasis on optical/infrared materials
- Understanding of material science, specifically related to optical/infrared materials
- Proficient in optical material characterization, to include but not limited to transmission, reflection, absorption , scattering and refractive index characterization
- Data analysis and summary using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint or related software
