This role focuses on designing, developing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Java/JEE web applications, services, data access components, and system integrations. The Java Developer works with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software enhancements across development, test, and production-support environments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Design, develop, modify, test, and maintain Java/JEE application components supporting enterprise systems.

·        Develop front-end and back-end components using Java, Spring or similar frameworks, JSP/JSTL, JavaScript, CSS, and related web technologies.

·        Build and maintain service, data access, domain, and persistence layers using Hibernate/JPA, JDBC, SQL, and relational databases.

·        Develop and support SOAP/REST services, XML/JSON data exchanges, APIs, and application interfaces with internal and external systems.

·        Analyze requirements, defects, and user-reported issues to determine code changes, integration impacts, and test scenarios.

·        Troubleshoot application behavior, data issues, performance concerns, deployment issues, environment configuration problems, and security-related findings.

·        Support unit testing, regression testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, defect resolution, release validation, and post-release support.

·        Collaborate with developers, testers, database administrators, analysts, infrastructure teams, system owners, and stakeholders to deliver software changes and maintain technical documentation.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·        5+ years of hands-on Java/JEE enterprise application development.

·        Experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting Java/JEE web applications and services.

·        Experience with Spring or similar enterprise frameworks, JSP/JSTL, JavaScript, CSS, application servers, relational databases, and SQL.

·        Experience developing services, APIs, persistence layers, and database-driven application functionality using technologies such as Hibernate/JPA, JDBC, XML, JSON, SOAP, or REST.

·        Experience using common development, build, and source-control practices, including tools such as Maven, Git, Eclipse/STS, or similar tools.

·        Understanding of SDLC practices, Agile delivery, unit testing, defect resolution, secure coding, code reviews, and release support.

·        Ability to troubleshoot complex application, data, integration, environment, and deployment issues.

·        Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

·        Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs, is a plus.

·        Experience supporting large healthcare, benefits, or mission-support systems, including applications that interface with legacy or enterprise platforms.

·        Familiarity with VA or Federal IT delivery environments, including security, privacy, accessibility, compliance, and release readiness expectations.

·        Experience supporting application modernization, dependency upgrades, technical debt reduction, and sustainment of legacy enterprise Java applications.

·        Experience with security scanning, vulnerability remediation, application logging, automated testing, performance troubleshooting, or production support practices.

EDUCATION:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

CLEARANCE:

·        Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
