Position Overview
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Solder Assembler to join our precision electronics manufacturing team. This role requires advanced expertise in both surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole soldering, along with strong rework and inspection capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to remove, repair, and replace complex components, including bottom-terminated packages such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs, while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Position Overview
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Solder Assembler to join our precision electronics manufacturing team. This role requires advanced expertise in both surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole soldering, along with strong rework and inspection capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to remove, repair, and replace complex components, including bottom-terminated packages such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs, while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-mix, low-volume assembly of SMT and through-hole components on complex printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- Execute removal, replacement, and repair of bottom-terminated components (QFNs, BGAs, LGAs) using advanced rework tools (hot-air pencils, hot plates, etc.)
- Conduct controlled reflow, pre-heat, and cooling cycles based on component-specific thermal profiles
- Operate and maintain X-ray inspection equipment to verify hidden solder joints and rework quality
- Interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accurate assembly
- Perform in-process inspections (visual, AOI, X-ray) and document results per quality standards
- Troubleshoot solder defects (tombstoning, voids, solder bridges) and implement corrective actions
- Maintain ESD-controlled work environment and adhere to safety/compliance procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts
- Work under a microscope for extended periods while inspecting and assembling PWBs
Required:
- 1-2 years of professional soldering experience
- Strong experience in SMT and through-hole soldering
- Ability to read and write in English
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to pass a required medical exam per supplier guidelines
Preferred:
- Experience with X-ray inspection systems
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD standards
- Blueprint reading experience
- Experience working with miniature components under a microscope
- Experience using a microscope to assemble components
- Experience assembling miniature parts into assemblies under magnification
- Strong soldering skills (SMT and through-hole) - 1-2 years required
- Basic computer skills (email, accessing files, SharePoint)
- General computer proficiency
- Blueprint reading ability
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards (preferred)
- Familiarity with IPC-J-STD standards (preferred)
- ESD-controlled electronics manufacturing setting
- High-precision, detail-oriented work environment
- Extended use of microscopes for inspection and assembly
