This Systems Engineer position is responsible for the technical oversight and coordination of the design, development, and implementation of complex systems, ensuring they meet user needs and requirements. The Systems Engineer plays a crucial role on the project team by working closely with stakeholders, including users, project managers, and technical teams, to ensure that the system meets requirements and is delivered on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- Requirements Generation and Traceability: Eliciting, analyzing, and documenting user requirements, and defining and decompose system requirements into design specifications to ensure that the final product meets the user's needs.
- Testing, Verification, and Validation: Ensuring that the testing of the system verifies that requirements are met and satisfies the user's/primary stakeholders need.
- Interface and Integration: Develop standards and coordinate the integration of systems across multiple disciplines and with existing systems. Develop concepts of operations and specific non-functional requirements to ensure the system can be efficiently operated and maintained. Coordinate between technical and non-technical teams working on different aspects of the system.
- Trade Studies: Conduct analyses to evaluate different design options, assess feasibility, and recommend the best approach based on factors such as performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
- Project Definition and Outcomes: Defining the project outcomes, system architecture, identifying key performance parameters, and assisting project managers in estimating the schedule, cost, and resources necessary to successfully develop, acquire, and implement the system.
In addition:
- Ability to ensure requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle and ensure requirements are well constructed, bounded, verifiable, and are properly validated with stakeholders.
- Ability to fully perform tasks requiring the collection, compilation, evaluation, and publication of information and statistical data.
- Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, and develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
Qualifications
- Must possess and be able to maintain a TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a scientific or technical discipline
- BS 10-12, MS 8-10, PhD 5-7
- Analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts and theories for various projects.
- Technology Design - Adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs.
- Ability to logically and systematically convert customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Ability to analyze and study complex system requirements, for example:
- Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, cost estimation, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Applying concepts of operations and related disciplines for the planning, analysis, design, and construction of information systems across a major sector of the organization.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Experience with activity and data modeling, transaction flow analysis, internal control and risk analysis, modern business methods, and performance measurement techniques.
Desired:
- Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment
- Ability to coordinate with engineers, systems analysts, programmers, technicians, scientists, and senior-level managers in the coordination and planning of programs.
- Ability to apply critical thinking to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
