Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Huntsville, AL

Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer (Subject Matter Expert) to support enterprise infrastructure and systems operations within a complex, mission-driven environment. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for engineering, integration, and sustainment of server platforms, network infrastructure, and operating systems.
This role requires hands-on expertise across systems architecture, virtualization, networking, and cybersecurity compliance within a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, and associated hardware
Plan, evaluate, and implement upgrades or modifications to network and server environments
Perform system analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause resolution across both hardware and software layers
Monitor system performance, utilization, and availability, proactively addressing operational issues
Support daily administration and sustainment of infrastructure components, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
Diagnose and resolve network-related issues at both physical and logical layers, including protocol-level troubleshooting (TCP/IP and related technologies)
Contribute to the architecture, design reviews, and deployment of new infrastructure systems supporting voice and data networks
Execute system integration and lifecycle management activities across enterprise environments
Administer and enhance virtualized environments, ensuring efficiency and scalability
Maintain and enforce infrastructure standards, configurations, and communication protocols
Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to engineering and operations teams
Lead efforts related to system design, deployment, testing, patching, and interoperability across platforms including storage and backup environments
Ensure systems maintain compliance with organizational patching policies and security baselines
Support system certification, accreditation, and authorization activities as required
Develop and maintain documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and user reference materials
Advise leadership on technology strategy, including infrastructure design, system optimization, and future-state planning
Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations for adoption aligned with mission needs
Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure support, or a related technical discipline
Strong experience with:
Microsoft Windows Server environments
Active Directory administration and management
In-depth knowledge of enterprise networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP)
Proven experience supporting complex client/server architectures
Demonstrated understanding of federal cybersecurity frameworks and compliance requirements, including:
NIST 800 series guidance
FISMA compliance practices
Ability to troubleshoot across full-stack infrastructure (hardware, OS, and network layers)
Strong communication skills with experience providing technical guidance and training to teams
Preferred Certifications
Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Preferred Experience
Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (version 7 or similar)
Familiarity with enterprise networking technologies and Cisco-based environments
Experience with enterprise hardware platforms (e.g., Dell servers, SAN/storage systems)
Exposure to system authorization and accreditation processes within secure environments
Experience supporting security controls aligned to NIST 800-53 frameworks
Familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tools such as RiskVision, Xacta, or similar platforms
