About Our Team:
Sandia's Design Engineering Group consists of multiple mechanical design departments that provide design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo and other 3D modeling tools. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative design solutions based on high quality CAD models and drawings. We ensure fit, form, and function using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), while ensuring manufacturability and maintainability of designs.

We determine the physical characteristics of the product including geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions. We communicate design options and recommended approaches to product development teams, stakeholders, and manufacturing partners. We apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products in support of our Nation's security programs. We provide a positive and inclusive work environment where staff can master new skills, deliver optimal value, and achieve their career goals.

What Your Job Will Be like:
We are seeking a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist to join our Design Engineer Group. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, transforming customer concepts into detailed product definitions that make a difference in national security. Each day will present exciting challenges and opportunities to showcase your creativity and technical expertise while contributing to critical initiatives in Nuclear Deterrence.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
• Innovate and Create: Dive into the world of design as you create, modify and evaluate detailed complex component and system definitions by implementing and integrating advanced design solutions. Your ability to implement and integrate cutting-edge design solutions will play a crucial role in shaping our projects.
• Bring Concepts to Life: Use your skills to design intricate three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems. Your work will be essential in visualizing and refining concepts that push the boundaries of engineering.
• Define Products: Play a vital role in defining products by transforming customer concepts into detailed specifications, ensuring clarity and precision in the design process. Present designs to clients.
• Collaborate and Integrate: Work closely with clients and team members, including CAD Designers, Product Design Engineers, and R&D Mechanical Engineers, to integrate defined requirements into your designs. Your insights and adaptability will ensure that our solutions meet the unique needs of each project.
• Lead teams in the design of three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems.
• Master CAD Technology: Harness the power of advanced three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop innovative mechanical designs. You'll perform mass property calculations, complex tolerance and interference analyses.
• Adapt to Evolving Requirements: Be prepared to navigate and refine designs based on evolving requirements, working closely with R&D Engineers to translate conceptual ideas into practical solutions.
• Analyze and Optimize: Gather and analyze product performance data to drive continuous improvement in design. Develop new methods and concepts. Your analytical skills will help us refine our designs and enhance the overall quality of our products.
