Health Technician

Duties

• Screen patients for Privilege Provider to include recording chief complaint.
• Measure patient's blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight.
• Administer immunizations as ordered by providers.
• Make entries on MHS Genesis, and other required databases.
• Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts.

• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements if its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• A pre-employment and annual physical examinations are required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.

Basic Requirement for Health Technician:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) performing clinical support tasks such as obtaining vital signs; 2.)scheduling appointments; and 3.)performing clerical duties in a medical office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Health Sciences.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
