Position Title: Substance Abuse Counselor
Division: 1 Health
Location: Okinawa, Japan (Kadena Air Base)
** Position contingent upon award of contract, government acceptance of candidate, and positive adjudication of government investigation.
Position Summary
1 Health Solutions is committed to placing people first as we accelerate healthcare delivery and provide superior health readiness for military and federal communities across the globe. We are seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor for a long-term contract providing personal medical services in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) in Okinawa, Japan. As part of the 1 Health Solutions team, healthcare workers (HCWs) will support Navy Medicine operations by delivering medical services to active-duty military personnel, their dependents, eligible DoD civilian employees, retirees, and other authorized beneficiaries designated by the Government.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform a full range of Certified Addiction Counselor duties, in accordance with assignment and consistent with the scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
• Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment and assist in developing programs.
• Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction.
• Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification.
• Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders
Education & Experience Requirements
• Degree: Certificate
• Education: Graduate from a behavioral science program with specialized training in substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment.
• Certification: Maintain a national certification credential by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors or National Board of Certification Counselors or International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse.
• Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as a Certified Drug and Substance Counselor.
• License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Drug and Substance Addictions Counselor.
Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands
• Services Shall be provided Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600 and 1800. The HCW shall be assigned an 8 shift, (to include an uncompensated .5 hour meal break) In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per 2-week period.
• Work is primarily performed indoors at a Military Treatment Facility; employee shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, have the physical ability to perform assigned tasks, able to lift twenty (20) pounds
• Must be a United States citizen, successfully pass an extensive government background investigation, and receive government client approval.
