Summary

The Law Clerk II will support Attorney Advisors and supervisory attorneys for EOUSA/USAO matters involving civil, criminal, immigration, regulatory, and policy-related legal work. This role performs legal research, analyzes statutes and case law, drafts memoranda and correspondence, tracks case deadlines, and supports attorneys with briefing and written work products. Candidates must have a J.D., litigation experience, strong legal writing skills, and the ability to support federal legal operations in a compliant DOJ environment.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct legal research involving administrative, statutory, regulatory, civil, criminal, and immigration law.
Identify possible defenses, violations, causes of action, and relevant legal issues for attorney review.
Analyze policy, program, legislative, and regulatory initiatives affecting USAO and EOUSA work.
Prepare legal memoranda, briefs, correspondence, draft responses, and other attorney-reviewed work products.
Support docketing, calendaring, deadline tracking, file location, and case/program data review.
Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedent, agency rules, regulations, and law review materials.
Brief attorneys on pertinent facts, legal issues, case law, and recommended courses of action.
Support casework and program areas including immigration, civil, criminal, violent crime, fraud, human trafficking, and drugs.
Maintain awareness of new federal, state, and local rules, procedures, and developments.
Use DOJ-provided equipment, cloud access, and government applications in accordance with federal and Leidos requirements.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
Minimum 2 years of professional litigation work experience.
U.S. citizenship.
Ability to obtain required DOJ background investigation/public trust adjudication.
Valid state driver’s license.
Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.
Strong legal research, legal analysis, and legal writing ability.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to make responsible decisions on short notice.
Ability to adapt to unexpected case, program, or litigation developments.
Physical location within commuting radius of EOUSA or a USAO office.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Active state bar license.
Immigration litigation experience.
Habeas corpus experience.
Denaturalization litigation experience.
Prior DOJ, USAO, EOUSA, federal agency, or government contractor experience.
Experience drafting legal memoranda, briefs, declarations, pleadings, or attorney correspondence.
Experience with docketing, calendaring, and litigation deadline management.
Prior public trust, suitability, or federal background investigation success.
Tools / Technologies / Systems

Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, DOJ government applications, cloud/virtual machine access, legal research platforms, docketing systems, calendaring systems, case management tools, eApp/SF85P process, SLATE/Unanet for subcontractor labor reporting where applicable.

Certifications
