The Data Analyst supports the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) through advanced data analytics, reporting, visualization, and database management activities utilizing multiple Department of Defense healthcare data systems, including the EACE Registry (EACE-R), DoD Trauma Registry/Military Orthopedic Trauma Registry (DoDTR/MOTR), and the Military Health System Data Repository (MDR). The position is responsible for extracting, analyzing, validating, and presenting complex medical and operational data to support clinical research, performance improvement initiatives, leadership reporting, and strategic decision-making. The role requires expertise in SQL, Tableau, advanced Microsoft Excel functions, medical coding systems, and healthcare data interpretation while ensuring compliance with DoD, DHA, HIPAA, and Joint Trauma System standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Summarize data by applying descriptive statistics and data visualization techniques using Microsoft Excel as the primary tool
  • Provide updates to Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) leadership and oversight groups on the status of progress and scheduled delivery as well as challenges to specific analytics project tasks
  • Work with internal and external clients to identify analytical and report requirements and handle special analytical projects as needed and defined by EACE leadership
  • Run queries on the EACE-Registry data.
  • Produce standard weekly and monthly reports on the EACE's population of interest and respond to ad hoc data requests for information as approved by the EACE Director, Chief of Staff and designated healthcare administrator
  • Develop, modify, or provide input to data analytics project plans, and implements project plans to meet or exceed objectives.
  • Run periodic integrity checks and analyze results to identify areas to address which serves to ensure data is accurate.
  • Identify gaps in data comparisons between the EACE-R, MDR, DoDTR and MOTR.
  • Provide presentations or briefings on all aspects of the data analysis
  • Maintain analytics project SharePoint libraries providing versioning and historical background on project-related documents; implements or maintains quality control processes with the goal of maintaining high fidelity data in the EACE-R, MDR, DoDTR and MOTR.
  • Make improvements, solve problems, or take corrective action when problems arise.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures
  • Adhere to Joint Trauma System (JTS), EACE and DHA data information and data release standard operating procedures including OPSEC and PAO routing for approval.
  • Provide analytic support and coaching with clinical community customers to more completely identify the appropriate data elements to answer the clinical study question or performance improvement queries.
  • Report any discovered Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) violation to EACE leadership and help eliminate the violation.
  • Manage all system access requests and coordinate EACE leadership approval for the EACE-R/MOTR and EACE Archival Database
  • Develop and update dashboards in Tableau software or like product applications to visualize EACE data
  • Extract, manipulate, analyze and array data for easy understanding
  • Respond to requests for information as approved by the EACE's Director, Chief of Staff or designated healthcare administrator. Such requests are often complex and involve multiple complex MS Excel data manipulations to collate the data and array it, to include complex pivot tables and SQL
  • Provide analytic support and coaching with clinical community customers.
  • Run integrity checks and analyze results to identify areas to address which serves to ensure data is accurate and manage and monitor reports.
  • Develop, modify, or provide input to data analytics project plans, and implements project plans to meet or exceed objectives
  • Identify gaps in data comparisons.
  • Coordinate and integrate data analytics project activities.
  • Implement or maintain quality control processes.
  • Make improvements, solve problems, or take corrective action when problems arise.
  • Give presentations or briefings on all aspects of the analysis
  • Evaluate, monitor, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Health Informatics Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum four (4) years' professional experience in data analytics, healthcare analytics, business intelligence, or database management.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in reading and interpreting medical diagnosis and procedure coding systems including ICD9, ICD10, and CPT.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess an active T3 confidential clearance


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain a T3 Confidential Clearance.
  • Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience using Tableau or similar business intelligence/data visualization applications
  • Possess advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in constructing and manipulating pivot tables and advanced Excel analytic functions
  • Experience in one or more analytical tools such as Python, SAS, SAP Business Objects, or R.
  • Experience with conducting data quality checks.
  • Ability to present data analysis to various groups/individuals.
  • Ability to interpret medical data from medical records and other various medical information sources to effectively communicate findings with EACE leadership, clinicians, and investigators
  • Possess strong background, familiarity, and understanding of medical diagnosis codes (ICD 9/10, CPT).
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and briefing experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial off the shelf products and components.
  • Ability to Travel
