As a Structural Engineer - Level 4 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
Analyzes, researches and develops fracture mechanics engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes fracture mechanics, damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural/fracture engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability, and stress fatigue. Tools utilized may include NASGRO (crack growth analysis code) or equivalent, NX, ANSYS/ABAQUS and a variety of software applications.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assess the structural/fracture integrity of rocket propulsion systems and related components using traditional closed form methods as well as finite element techniques
- Plan and oversee fracture characterization testing of various materials used in the design of rockets
- Reduce fracture characterization test data into analysis input properties and material capability properties
- Prepare reports and memos documenting fracture assessment activities and results
- Prepare and make presentations summarizing fracture assessment results for internal review boards and external customers
- Perform assessment and develop disposition of discrepant hardware and hardware anomalies
- Interact with design and development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Materials, Operations) to support innovative and creative design solutions that meet rocket motor requirements (technical, cost, schedule)
- Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 8 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree (STEM) with 6 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Familiarity of design and modeling software (NX)
- Strong and demonstrated communication, planning, project management and presentation skills
- Strong knowledge of fracture/crack growth codes, and associated structural analysis software and their application
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS or PhD Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering with emphasis in fracture mechanics and analysis, and solid mechanics or finite element theory
- History of journal or conference publication
- Research/coursework in composite structures
