Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Mechanical Technician - Level 4 to join our team in Chandler, AZ. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

Northrop Grumman is seeking a skilled and experienced Level 4 Mechanical Technician to support the assembly, integration, testing, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems and aerospace hardware. This position is critical for ensuring compliance with the highest quality standards and supporting mission-critical programs. Level 4 Mechanical Technicians are expected to lead advanced technical activities and assist in improving processes, mentoring team members, and troubleshooting intricate systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical integration, be highly adaptable, and demonstrate leadership capabilities.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Mechanical Assembly and Integration
  • Perform advanced assembly and integration of mechanical systems, vehicle structures, subsystems, payloads, and ground support equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Execute precise structural alignments, torquing, sealing, bonding, and fitting necessary for the integration of spaceflight and launch vehicle systems.
  • Conduct subassembly and full-system integration testing, ensuring flight hardware adheres to program specifications and aerospace and NASA standards.
  • Perform cable routing, mechanical fastening, and secure critical hardware to meet design and safety standards.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting
  • Conduct detailed inspections and functional tests on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to verify performance prior to flight and delivery.
  • Lead troubleshooting of mechanical systems and structures, isolating and resolving faults, and collaborating with engineering teams to develop corrective actions.
  • Support environmental testing activities, including vibration, thermal vacuum, and pressure testing, to ensure hardware is flight-ready.
  • Leadership and Training
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior technicians, assisting with development of skills in assembly, inspection, and testing.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and operations teams to address technical challenges and enhance manufacturing and test processes.
  • Act as a team lead for technical tasks, coordinating work assignments and ensuring timely completion of objectives.
  • Process Improvement and Compliance
  • Evaluate existing mechanical processes and provide input to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
  • Ensure all work performed complies with company processes, safety requirements, and regulatory standards, including AS9100 and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of activities, including updates to work orders, reports, and non-conformance documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience in mechanical assembly, integration, or test roles, particularly in aerospace, defense, or another high-reliability industry.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • In-depth experience working with aerospace-grade mechanical systems, including structural assemblies, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, cable routing, and ordnance components.
  • Advanced proficiency with precision tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and similar instruments used for high-precision assembly.
  • Proven ability to interpret and adhere to complex engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing environmental testing procedures, such as vibration, thermal vacuum, or load testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify, document, and resolve mechanical malfunctions accurately and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with NASA standards, AS9100 quality guidelines, and ESD-sensitive procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation of completed work and techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Must be US Citizen


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with cleanroom protocols for handling flight-critical hardware.
  • Proficiency in software and tools for manufacturing and operations, including SAP, Teamcenter, or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Previous experience working with launch vehicles, spacecraft, or similar high-reliability aerospace hardware.
  • Certification in hazardous materials handling, including ordnance or controlled components.
  • Experience training or supervising teams of technicians in an aerospace or defense environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple programs simultaneously and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Work may require physical activity, including bending, kneeling, and lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Extended periods of standing and frequent assembly tasks requiring fine motor skills.
  • Work may take place in environments with strict cleanroom protocols, requiring the use of protective equipment and adherence to contamination control and ESD standards.

Primary Level Salary Range: $68,300.00 - $113,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
