Job Description
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is looking for a Principal Optics - Directed Energy Engineer / Scientist who possesses solid working knowledge and experience in the development and production of directed energy systems. Candidate will provide Engineering & Acquisition support for advanced weapons and sensor systems and related technologies / programs. Job will support Missile Defense Agency Advanced Technology Division in Von Braun III on Redstone Arsenal. This candidate must be able to work across a broad spectrum of science and technology stakeholders from other government agencies. The mission is to explore emerging missile defense concepts, support development of advanced technologies, and develop risk-based development and integration strategies for these concepts. This candidate must be able to analyze requirements, research new and disruptive technologies, conduct deliberate planning, establish and facilitate collaboration networks, and provide program management support integrating these emerging concepts and technologies.

Essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- Identify and prioritize future missile defense technologies designed to close capability gaps and document these technologies in comprehensive Agency-level Science & Technology roadmaps; initial focus will be in directed energy technologies.
- Evaluate and demonstrate the feasibility of incorporating new technologies/concepts across the Department of Defense into the missile defense architecture; evaluate and document their potential value and system benefit.
- Support special study efforts as needed to include experimental studies showing concept feasibility, analysis, data integration, and software development for communication technologies.
- Develop risk reduction approaches for a broad portfolio of advanced concepts that advance state-of-the-art capabilities for current and future missile defense architectures.
- Foster and lead collaborative engagement with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate and consolidate inputs from Chief Technology Officers and investigate opportunities for impactful technology development.
- The candidate must be self-motivated, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic program office.
- Must be capable of developing briefings and reports which accurately summarize program performance and address key issues for Senior Service and OSD leadership, and other DoD offices.
- Provide Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis support for directed energy systems.
- Deliver metric-based analysis products and executive-level presentations
- Provide excellent customer support and ability to communicate with all levels of leadership and/or customers.
Required Qualifications:
- US citizenship and active security clearance required: TS/SCI SAP clearance
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, optics, or related technical field required.
- Candidate should have 15+ years of professional experience. 5+ years of DoD acquisition, engineering, test, and technical management experience.
- Experience working on classified and special access programs.
- Experience performing R&D, technology maturation and insertion, analysis, testing, and systems engineering.
- Must be self-motivated and adept at researching and learning about new technologies.
- Have a demonstrated record of successfully taking ownership and responsibility for projects.
- Must have the ability to multi-task, respond to quick turn-around requests, and produce quality products with minimal oversight.
- Possess skills to develop clear, concise, and logically written business communications, as well as deliver recommendations.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to build strong relationships to leverage information and insights across key groups.
- Strong personal leadership, organizational, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a development team.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- MS or PhD preferred.
- Previous experience managing and/or developing directed energy technologies and prototype systems.
- Experience with hypersonic advanced concepts and strategic missions.
