Job Description

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position; to verify and analyze on and off equipment, malfunctions, troubleshoot, calibrate, modify, fabricate, test, align, inspect, repair, configure, deconfigure, and load assigned integrated nuclear/conventional weapons delivery systems; and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

DUTIES:
  • Troubleshoots integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems, electronic and electro-mechanical components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, subassemblies, Alternate Mission Equipment, and test equipment to determine nature of malfunctions and corrective actions required both on and off equipment. Diagnoses problems in highly complex electronic equipment and a complete operational system (s) consisting of numerous integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices.
  • Performs maintenance, repair, inspection, fabrication and modification of integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems electronic and electro-mechanical components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and their subassemblies for both on and off equipment. Repairs, maintains, and inspects highly complex weapons systems electronic and electro-mechanical equipment in accordance with standardized procedures. Using standard trade practices and procedures, repairs, maintains, and inspects moderately complex weapons systems electronic and electro-mechanical equipment in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Removes/installs integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems electronic components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and subassemblies for both on and off equipment and associated test equipment. Removes/installs highly complex weapon systems equipment and digital/analog electronic equipment in an efficient and timely manner following standardized trade practices, procedures and regulations.
  • Performs pretest, operational, functional, electrical, mechanical, and final testing of integrated nuclear/conventional weapon systems electronic components fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and their subassemblies both on and off equipment. Tests weapon systems electronic equipment to identify malfunctions. Thoroughly tests highly complex digital/analog weapons systems electronic equipment, identifying any malfunctions to ensure repairs are accomplished with minimum downtime.
  • Accomplishes configuration changes of integrated nuclear/conventional weapons control, launch, release, and suspension assemblies on assigned aircraft and equipment based on mission requirements. Following standardized trade practices and procedures, removes and installs alternate mission equipment in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Accurately performs operational and functional weapons systems validation and reliability verification in accordance with standardized trade practices, procedures and regulations.
  • Performs explosive operations, loads and unloads, positions, arms, and safes all assigned nuclear/conventional air munitions and pyrotechnics on assigned aircraft and or equipment. Using standardized technical data, accurately performs initial and reoccurring proficiency certification/qualification academic and practical training. Plans and conducts training of reserve personnel, Active Duty and other employees.
  • Controls tools, cleans work area and equipment and completes work control documents inaccordance with established procedures. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical OrderProgram, and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 - ARMAMENT WORK FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic with little or no supervision

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints, and technical orders relating to the electronics and electro-mechanical trades.
2.Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics and electro-mechanical trades.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices.
4. Knowledge of related electronic, electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, policy, and technical orders.
5. Ability to remove, install, modify, repair, maintain, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot complete electronic or electro-mechanical systems. Select and use electronic and electro-mechanical testing equipment. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to clean work area and job site upon completion of work.
6. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accountability and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its certification and documentation procedures.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain AirForce Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA) weekends. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
2. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
3. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station.
4. Incumbent may be required to secure a valid state, commercial driver's license with hazardous materials endorsement.
5. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. May be subject to shift work and uncommon tours of duty.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
7. "IAW DoD I 3020.42, the position has been locally designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity. Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release."

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Heavy lifting (80lbsand over). Climbing heights up to 65 feet. Operation of crane, tractor, motor vehicle, or aerospace ground equipment. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted). If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Works inside and out, in inclement weather, on wet slippery, hot/cold ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, fuel, high pressure air and fluids, electrical shock or burns caused by electrical or RF energy. Dangers also include engine noise, blast, ingestion, and fast actuating metal surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, and flaps. Will be required to transport, assemble, load, arm, or safe any assigned munitions, explosive device, or assembly up to and including class 1 explosives. May be subject to thehazards related to the removal or disassembly of explosive devices or subassemblies from explosive laden aircraft.
