Job Description
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure in support of the MIDS Test & Engineering team within Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC). This role ensures that IT infrastructure remains secure, highly available, and resilient, enabling warfighting capabilities while strictly adhering to federal and departmental security directives. This role involves running Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) scans and applying Security Technical Implementation Guides for vulnerability scanning and system hardening.
CORE FUNCTIONS / JOB DUITES
Able to perform the following with supervision:
Provide assistance as a Server Administrator installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems (Windows/Linux) and hardware such as servers, desktops, and storage devices.
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure reliability and efficiency.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control using tools like Active Directory.
Implement security measures, apply patches, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
Write or modify scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to automate routine tasks and improve system administration processes.
Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Manage backup solutions and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
Work closely with network engineers, developers, and other IT staff on system upgrades and integration projects.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of the following:
Windows 10/11, Windows Server, and Linux environments
Networking concepts and virtualization technologies
System monitoring tools
Cloud platforms and hybrid environments
Familiarity with ACAS, STIG, RMF, and ATO
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
DoD 8140 Compliance Required
CompTIA Security+ Required
CompTIA Network+ Preferred
BS STEM Degree Preferred
OS Certification Preferred

$100,000.00 to $ $125,000.00 annually, DOE

SECURITY CLEARANCE
Candidates must have an active clearance OR the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
