Job Description

Duties

  • Utilizes an in-depth practical knowledge related to a wide range of clerical and administrative Family Readiness Program requirements and issues.
  • Performs a wide variety of clerical and administrative duties in direct support of the commander.
  • Briefings, orientations, and workshops, informing soldiers and family members regarding the functions of the Family Readiness Program at all organizational levels and a variety of deployment and reunion issues.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and executing of unit family support services for family members separated from the military sponsor due to mobilization/deployment and training efforts, or other duty requirements.
  • In coordination with appropriate community agencies, i.e. ACS, chaplains, and Moral, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) activities etc., actively participates in the preparation and conduct of battalion or higher headquarters.
  • Ensures timely and accurate information is relayed to soldiers and their family members sensitive to their needs during training or deployment periods.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the expereince requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Coordinating routine clerical tasks by preparing basic correspondence, organizing files, tracking suspenses, and routing documents through established office procedures. Assisting with the setup of meetings or briefings by arranging space, preparing simple materials, coordinating schedules, and distributing information to participants. Supporting family or community program activities by gathering information, responding to straightforward inquiries, and relaying updates between staff and program participant
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next/second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Proficiency Requirements: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
