Position: Senior Mechanical CAD Designer
Location: Cambridge, MA
Length: 6+ Month Contract
Active government security clearance is a plus, but not required
Job Description:
As a Senior Mechanical CAD Designer, you will transform engineering concepts into detailed, production-ready designs for prototypes, manufacturing components, fixtures, and test equipment. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will create accurate 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings that translate seamlessly to the shop floor and manufacturing environment.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced CAD professional with strong expertise in SolidWorks and/or Creo, a deep understanding of drafting and modeling standards, and experience working within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, preferably 3DEXPERIENCE. The role is well suited for someone who enjoys precision-focused CAD work and takes pride in seeing designs brought to life from concept through production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop detailed SolidWorks and/or Creo 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings for machined components, cable and wire harnesses, and printed circuit card assemblies (PCCAs)
• Manage CAD data, revisions, and documentation using 3DEXPERIENCE PLM tools
• Execute engineering change requests (ECRs/ECOs) and maintain drawing revision accuracy
• Produce technical drawings in accordance with company, industry, and military drafting standards
• Identify potential design or documentation issues with minimal supervision and communicate findings to senior engineering staff
• Follow established engineering workflows, processes, and work instructions while adapting quickly to new procedures
• Provide constructive feedback to improve drafting processes, documentation standards, and workflow efficiency
• Communicate project progress, technical issues, and status updates effectively to project teams and management
• Support additional engineering documentation and CAD-related assignments as needed
Qualifications:
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting, preferably using Creo and/or SolidWorks
• Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems; 3DEXPERIENCE experience preferred
• Familiarity with industry and military drafting/modeling standards, including GD&T practices
• Ability to organize and capture detailed design information in a fast-paced engineering environment
• Experience interpreting component datasheets and defining engineering parameters accurately
• Excellent communication skills, strong organizational ability, and exceptional attention to detail
Education:
• Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related discipline
• 7–10 years of hands-on technical drafting and mechanical CAD design experience
