TEKsystems is seeking a Network Administrator to support the network infrastructure for LAN/WAN services at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
As a Network Administrator you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work depends on Network Administrators joining our team to ensure that the NIH network infrastructure remains resilient, secure and operational for the NIH community to progress their science and research and continue their mission critical work.
How a Network Administrator will Make an Impact:
• Leverage in-person and virtual connections to coordinate work actions to take the burden of IT off our customers so they can focus on the science
• Contribute your knowledge and experience to the collective pool at NIH and helping other IT pros at the institute level work better for their community
• Working together with the CIT federal team and other service areas as ONE CIT to serve NIH
• Helping ensure the network infrastructure and the associated internet and intranet services are available to scientists, researchers, patients, etc… with maximum uptime by responding quickly and thoroughly to incidents, requests, and sudden outages
• Utilizing your experience of networking and evolving technologies to develop solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and ever-changing enterprise federal environment that needs to remain compliant and secure but also not holding back scientific discovery and progress
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (or high school diploma accompanied with relevant experience and professional certification)
CCNA (Required) or CCNP (Nice to Have) professional certification
Required Experience:
Minimum 3 year of network administrator experience
Required Technical Skills:
• Have solid understanding and comprehension of network protocols and switching, TCP/IP, FTP/HTTP, UDP, VPN, etc… and able to decipher network topologies
• Advanced troubleshooting of network device gear such as routers, switches, wireless access points, uninterruptible power supplies, firewalls, etc…
• Activate and configure switches, routers, NICs, LAN ports, etc…
• Create network and closet diagrams
• Use network tools to diagnose, trace and or validate activity on LAN ports, network gear and or endpoints and be able to read and decipher logs and traffic
Security Clearance Level:
Must be able to obtain an NIH public trust
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Able to lift up to 50lbs to rack and stack network gear
• Have reliable means of transportation to respond to on-call emergencies within the DC-MD-VA area within defined response times
• Be meticulous in documentation showing work performed so that it may be reviewed, recreated or presented to management
• Be organized with their workspace
• Be able to work in a team setting or with other IT pros effectively in-person or virtually for root cause analysis
• Strong sense of responsibility and ownership of tasks
