Supervisory Pharmacist

Duties

• Directly supervise professional and technical personnel in the inpatient pharmacy under their purview and their day-to-day clinical operations.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate inpatient dispensing services.
• Develop and maintains position descriptions and performance standards for subordinate pharmacy personnel.
• Ensure that pharmacy services are aligned with established best practices and responsible for the overall quality of pharmacy programs.
• Serve as the pharmacy liaison with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other staff.
• Define and establish adequate in-process checks and quality assurance measures for the proper surveillance of the dispensing of medications.

• This position may require the incumbent to complete a one-year supervisory probationary period.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• Credentialing: This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Pharmacist:

Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes dispensing medication, managing personnel in a clinical pharmacy, and assessing and/or counseling patients on drug treatment plans and care. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
