Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes duties such as: executing, validating, and providing recommendations for processing clearances; reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating investigations; and receiving requests and conducting interviews to determine eligibility This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Security Management, Criminal Justice, Intelligence and Security Studies.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Additional information
- Responsible for the initiation and application of Department of Defense Personnel and Information Security policies and procedures.
- Provides recommendations to the Director on personnel security matters and provides technical assistance on interpreting higher headquarters (HQs) policy, and adherence to procedural requirements for processing security clearances.
- Recommends procedures for use in local policy and command directives for the Personnel Security Program.
- Executes and validates security clearances for all civilian, and contract personnel assigned to the MTF and authorized access to classified and unclassified but sensitive Defense Department information.
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates data contained in reports of completed investigations to determine if sufficient information is available to make a loyalty or suitability judgment.
- Conducts personal screening interviews to determine if individuals are eligible for compartmented clearances or participation in special access programs.

- Approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for Army via Memorandum, Assistant Secretary of Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program.
- The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a set of competencies that promotes interoperability, professional development and training, and develops certified security professionals.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD certification within their first two years of employment [Security Fundamentals Professional Certification].
- This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment.
