Job Description
GovCIO is currently hiring for Senior Full Stack Developer to design, build, and maintain complex full-stack application features for VA.gov. This position will be a fully remote position within the United States.

Responsibilities
Full Stack Engineering
- Architect, develop, and maintain user interface components using React.js, Redux, TypeScript, and VA.gov design system libraries.
- Design, build, and optimize backend systems in Ruby on Rails, including RESTful APIs, JSON controllers, database models, and Sidekiq workers.
- Ensure performance, accessibility (Section 508 compliance), security, scalability, and reliability across the full stack.
- Integrate frontend and backend functionality into cohesive, reliable, and maintainable features.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps automation.
Architecture, Analysis & System Design
- Conduct advanced system analysis, defining technical constraints, data flows, and distributed system interactions.
- Contribute to long-term architectural planning, modernization initiatives, and technical RFC development.
AI-Powered Enhancements
- Implement and support AI/LLM workflows and automations in alignment with VA standards and federal security guidelines.
- Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, vector search, embedding configurations, and model orchestration.
- Operationalize GenAI systems in AWS including model operations, observability, monitoring, and cost optimization.
Leadership, Collaboration & Delivery
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers while fostering high-quality engineering practices.
- Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, backend teams, and federal stakeholders to deliver Veteran-focused services.
- Participate in and sometimes facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews, and code reviews.
Quality, Testing & Documentation
- Lead unit, integration, and end-to-end testing efforts across the full stack.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, architecture notes, and operational procedures.
- Ensure all deliverables meet federal, contractual, security, accessibility, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- 5-8 years of professional software development experience.
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience.
- Advanced proficiency in React/Redux, TypeScript, and Ruby on Rails.
- Experience building, integrating, and optimizing RESTful APIs within distributed systems.
- Familiarity with AWS, DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum workflows.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
- Experience supporting the VA, VA.gov architecture, or other federal agencies.
- Familiarity with federal enterprise systems such as CorpDB, MPI, BDN, and VBMS.
- Experience deploying AI or ML features in compliance-heavy, FedRAMP or government environments.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
