Job Title: Tailor


Salary Range: $17.75 Per Hour + $5.09 HW

Job Summary:


Responsible for ensuring all maintenance and sewing standards are consistently upheld at the FLETC campus in Charleston, SC. Duties include, but are not limited to, sewing, hemming, mending, alterations, and construction of minor training aids.


Sewing staff are responsible for ensuring all sewing related activities are done safely and performed to a quality standard. Sewing staff will ensure repairs and alterations are completed in a timely manner. Staff are also responsible for inspecting uniforms for any additional wear and tear and returning items to inventory after repairs or alterations are completed. Additionally, staff must maintain a clean, safe, organized, and regularly inspected workspace.

Responsibilities:


• Hem trouser legs and alter waist sizes of agency and basic training uniforms.


• Sew identifying logo patches to agency, basic training, and staff service uniforms.


• Replace buttons and snaps on all uniforms.


• Mend damaged and torn uniforms that are repairable.


• Ensure the backlog of required repairs shall not exceed twenty-five pieces at any one time.


• Perform other uniform mending, alterations, or construct of minor training aids, as requested by the COR or Contracting Officer.

Qualifications:


· Demonstrated experience in garment alterations and repair (typically 1–3+ years)


· Proficiency in operating sewing machines and performing hand stitching


· Ability to perform common alterations such as hemming, tapering, resizing, and zipper replacement


· Knowledge of different fabrics and appropriate sewing techniques


· Ability to read and follow work instructions or garment specifications


· Must meet FLETC background and conduct standards.


  • This position may require the operation of Company-provided vehicles.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, maintaining a valid driver’s license in good standing is a condition of employment.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, employee must comply with all Company vehicle use and safety policies, as well as all applicable traffic laws.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, the Company may review your motor vehicle record (MVR), as permitted by law, to verify eligibility to operate Company vehicles.

    • If operating Company-provided vehicles, you must immediately notify the Company if your driver’s license is suspended, revoked, restricted, expires, or if your driving privileges otherwise change.





Rate: $15.56/ hr $5.09 H&W


Additional Requirements:


  • Must be eligible for DHS background investigation and suitability clearance.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with work authorization.

  • This position is flexible with hours required
