Job Description

Position Description & Qualifications

Serco is seeking to fill a fast-paced, growing, and dynamic role of a Systems Engineer II to support our Satellite Ground System organization in Orlando, FL. This role is an individual contributor supporting engineering activities on one or more assigned programs. This is an agile program using 2-week sprints and tracking work in JIRA.

In this role you will:
  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
  • Analyses performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Performs integration and testing activities with contractor provided equipment and systems with various government provided systems.
  • Generates test plans, test reports, system and software problem reports, and tracks issues through resolution.

In addition, the candidate must be a team player, able to work comfortably and effectively with company team members as well as program stakeholders and DoD contractor personnel using strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Also, the candidate may be required to travel in support of customer interface, technical interchange meetings, on-site technical support, and event/exercise support.

To be successful in this role, you will:
  • An active DoD interim Secret clearance or DoD Secret Security clearance
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field. STEM degree required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working within formal engineering, development, integration, requirements analysis, and/or testing processes for the development of complex systems
  • Experience working with one or more of the following satellite communications technology aspects: system architecture, interfaces, protocols, control, planning, equipment, concept of operation, troubleshooting, policies, and/or procedures
  • The ability to travel up to 10%.

Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Experience with standard system engineering processes for the development of complex systems with familiarity with some of the following areas: architecture development, systems analysis, requirements and interface management, and Engineering Review Board representation over the total systems lifecycle.
  • Knowledge base of Wideband SATCOM Operational Management System (WSOMS) or other enterprise-ground system architectures.
  • Knowledge base of commercial SATCOM systems and their supporting ground and management systems.
  • Experience or familiarization with analysis of satellite events, troubleshooting anomalies, outages, interference, technical feasibility, interoperability
  • Familiarization with DoD systems and subsystems (e.g. C2ISR platforms, SATCOM, data links).
  • Understanding of radio frequency (RF) theory as it relates to communications (including satellite link performance parameters, link budgets and interference calculations)
  • Knowledge of advanced satellite waveforms and modem operations.
  • Cross-domain technical experience including RF communications, space-to-ground communications, network engineering, and electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Experience coding in Matlab and/or Simulink
