Job Description
540 is seeking a Solutions Architect to support our partnership with Google and the Department of Defense in advancing mission-critical capabilities for a global data processing platform. This platform leverages Machine Learning, modern cloud and containerized technologies to ingest, process, and analyze high-volume, time-series data.
In this role, you will support technical architecture efforts and contribute to the design and delivery of distributed systems that enable near real-time analysis and mission insight. You will work at the intersection of data engineering, platform architecture, and mission operations, helping ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and secure within highly regulated, high-impact environments.
Location: Patrick SFB, FL (Patrick Space Force Base). Primarily onsite, up to 5 days/week
Citizenship & Clearance Requirement: Per client requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens with an active DoD clearance with TS/SCI eligibility
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (preferred)

HOW YOU’LL DRIVE IMPACT
Support the design and implementation of cloud-based platforms and distributed systems
Contribute to architecture decisions across cloud infrastructure, networking, and system design
Work shoulder to shoulder with engineers and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions
Build, deploying, and troubleshooting cloud-native applications and services
Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver practical solutions
Produce and maintain technical documentation for system design and architecture decisions
Participate in technical discussions and contribute to solution design and tradeoff analysis
Support integration efforts across services, APIs, and platform components
Work with delivery teams to ensure solutions align with mission needs and timelines
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
4+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, or architecture roles
Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
Experience with containerized environments
Experience with Python and strong programming ability in a typed language (Java, Kotlin, C#, etc.)
Experience building or supporting distributed systems and cloud-based applications
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows
Familiarity with Event-Driven and Asynchronous Architecture
Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts (SAML, OAuth, etc.)
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with identity and access management tools (Keycloak)
Experience with AI/ML platforms (Vertex AI)
Experience with Kubernetes and serverless deployments
Familiarity with DevSecOps practices
Experience with Linux administration (especially RHEL)
Experience building data pipelines and/or ETL/ELT pipelines
Experience working in Agile development environments
Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government programs, particularly DoD environments
