Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an experienced specification technical Writer (Level 2 or 3) to support our Armament Systems business site in Elk River, MN. This role will report onsite daily.
Seeking a specification or technical writer to join the Manufacturing LAP (Load-Assembly-Pack) team to support production activities. This role focuses on creating and maintaining work instructions for the equipment and processes used in manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a background in technical writing and experience in manufacturing creating detailed work instructions from inception (parts or models in hand) through electronic approval and release .
Our Elk River site consists of a serene 3,200 acres, with over 20 active buildings , and numerous projects supporting development, manufacturing and testing for Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems Division. This role , as part of our Manufacturing Engineering team , works to continuously improve, support, and maintain manufacturing activities of Medium Caliber Ammunition and Warhead production through a variety of self-directed daily tasks and larger team projects. This role supports 1 st shift operations on a 4/10 schedule.

Primary Level Salary Range: $21.66 - $36.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $25.70 - $42.79
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (typical duties and functions)
- Writes, rewrites and/or edits site level operating procedures to maintain compliance with countless regulating bodies.
- Writes, rewrites and/or edits detailed assembly work instructions in accordance with the corporate quality management system (QMS) standards and released templates to clearly and effectively communicate technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
- Acquires subject matter knowledge by interviewing manufacturing engineers, technicians , observing performance of production methods, referring to CAD models and reviewing previously released documentation .
- Takes photos and c reates illustrations, diagrams, table s and charts as required to convey assembly instructions.
- Manages release and approval workflows of work instruction s into the corporate Product Lifecycle Management ( PLM ) tool ( Siemens Team c enter ) .
- Holds or facilitates document reviews to flush out any safety concerns, assembly issues and operator feedback prior to release.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS (schooling, training, experience)

- Valid driver's license
- Specification Writer 2 : High school diploma or equivalent & 2+ years of related experience
- Specification Writer 3 : High school diploma & 4+ years of related experience
- Demonstrated experience with :
- d ocument writing (reports, work instructions, manuals , etc.) .
- w orking as part of larger team to gather inputs / feedback and make changes as required.
- Preferred exp erience:
- in a regulated industry (Defense, Medical, etc.) .
- with h azardous m aterials or e nvironments, specifically energetic and explosive materials .
- i n a manufacturing assembly setting using or creating detailed work instructions.
- familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter for routing and approving documentation.
- With CAD packages (CREO or SOLIDWORKS) to create exploded diagrams for inclusion within work instructions.
Work Environment
- Exposure to energetic and explosive materials.
- Exposure to heavy equipment (milling, machine, pressing, etc.)
- Must wear proper PPE (conductive shoes, steel toe shoes, safety glasses) when leaving oper ations building.
- 4/10 Work Shift Monday thru Thursday from 6:00am - 4:30pm.
