Job Description

Duties

  • You will perform thorough safety and maintenance inspections on emergency transport vehicles, providing first echelon maintenance repairs as required.
  • You will conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of their condition and search for alert symbols.
  • You will prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medical/medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
  • You will report in a clear/concise manner, orally or in writing, what injuries were identified and what care was administered at the scene or in transit.
  • You will follow definite course of action as assigned, provide emergency medical service, fight fires, effects rescue, and protect property and the environment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays) and rotating shift work.
  • This position requires rotating shift work. 3 (24-hr) shifts per week
Qualifications

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter AND Paramedic providing fire prevention, fire protection, and emergency operations; responding to emergencies as a member of an Engine Company, Truck Company, Rescue Company, Hazardous Materials Team and/or a Rescue Team with associated vehicle and equipment.

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter providing fire prevention, fire protection, and emergency operations to include structural firefighting, emergency medical service, rescue operations, and hazardous materials responses.

Additional Conditions of Employment: This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is covered under Special Firefighter Retirement. Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of an agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. An applicant reentering into a Primary Firefighter position may have the maximum entry age adjusted based on prior covered Firefighter federal service. Must maintain professional qualifications certification in accordance with the International fire Service Accreditation congress (IFSAC), Pro-Board fire Service Professional Qualifications System, and Department of Transportation (DoT) level as a minimum. Aligned to DoD Standards, DoD Instructions 6055.06 (Fire and Emergency Services Program) and DoDI 6055.06-M (Fire and Emergency services Certification Programs).

Must possess and maintain Firefighter I & II, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Driver Pump Operator (DPO) Driver, HAZMAT Operations, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.

Must obtain and maintain certification in accordance with American Heart Association and Military Training Network: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Instructor (CPR & AED Programs).

Incumbent is required to perform all firefighting duties including the use and operation of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when deemed necessary. Physical demands of the work include periods of extreme physical exertion under rigorous and unusual conditions including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working from ladders and elevating equipment; descending into confining areas and using heavy bulky tools and equipment; prolonged periods of continuous walking and/or standing; bending/lifting up to 100 pounds; and climbing ladders up to 100 feet is required. Physical fitness training is required on more than a weekly basis as reflected in the regulations. Required physical training will be completed during duty hours and on each available shift.

Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and in all types of weather conditions, and the incumbent will be subjected to heat, cold, smoke, and stress.

This is an Emergency-Essential position. In the event of an emergency and/or inclement weather conditions, the incumbent must report to work unless otherwise instructed by management. The incumbent will also be instructed to work during non-duty hours.

This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
