Job Description

AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned federal contractor, is seeking a Technical Intern 2 for a summer internship supporting NASA's innovative aerospace research and flight missions at the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Responsibilities

As a Technical Intern 2 with AMERICAN SYSTEMS supporting NASA at the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), you will:
  • Collaborate with NASA personnel, AFRC partners, aircraft technicians, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on real-world aerospace projects.
  • Perform a variety of assigned tasks under the direct guidance of experienced professionals in areas such as engineering, software development, database management, and security analysis.
  • Support Flight Instrumentation and System Integration Engineers with the design, integration, and testing of hardware, software, avionics, power, and instrumentation systems that enable safe and successful flight operations.
  • Assist with technical problem-solving efforts to address complex engineering challenges and support the development of next-generation flight technologies.
  • Gain hands-on experience applying classroom knowledge to mission-driven projects in a dynamic research and flight test environment.
  • Contribute to technical activities, documentation, analysis, and system support efforts that help advance aerospace innovation.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to work 100% on-site at Edwards AFB, California.
  • Must have a high school diploma and be currently enrolled in college or have 3-4 years of college coursework completed, or equivalent related work experience.
  • Must have a basic understanding of engineering principles and systems engineering processes.
  • Must be able to apply standard methods and approaches while demonstrating initiative, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment.

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $50,800.00/Yr. - USD $84,900.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
