Electronics technicians may have gained experience assisting in work situations including:
Maintenance - Developing maintenance standards and procedures for use by others. Analyzing repair practices and developing procedural instructions for use by others on methods and steps to repair equipment.
Installation - Planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities, particularly where there are site selection and construction problems, dealings with contractors and public utilities, and the possible need to modify equipment for novel site characteristics.
Fabrication - Designing and analyzing circuits, determining design feasibility, evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions, and collecting performance data. Designing or modifying designs to achieve performance and cost objectives. Evaluating the adequacy of equipment for such purposes as repair, calibration, and testing.
Testing and Evaluation/Research and Development - Developing or evaluating new or modified electronic systems. Completing testing, evaluating data, and determining acceptability of equipment modifications, validity, test procedures and data, or legality of operation. Technicians support professional engineers in performing experiments, research, and developmental activities requiring an in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles to work on concepts, prototypes, and experimental projects that are without precedent and support state-of-the-art research.
Sustainment - Developing, performing, evaluating, or modifying calibration and test equipment, systems, and procedures. Reporting, analyzing, and archiving test data. Performing complex calculations and manipulations of test data to improve performance of systems, instrumentation, measurement standards, techniques, and procedures.
Troubleshooting - Analyzing and diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment. Interpreting circuit wiring, logic cable diagrams, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and equipment to understand the function and interconnections of the various assemblies and troubleshoot the system.

- You will serve as primary liaison providing technical guidance and coordination of organized teams with responsibility for functional checkout, test and inspection of major systems, as well as prioritizing work, and resolving conflicts.
- You will prepare comprehensive technical reports, and when required, formal correspondence, identifying the root cause and all other significant aspects of the problem and the corrections applied.
- You will have principal responsibility for determining state of operability and contractors' compliance with installation objectives for the systems assigned.
- You may be tasked to represent INSURV in the inspection and functional checkout/demonstration of major shipboard systems onboard Mayport based ships as a full participant in INSURV material inspections.
- You will provide authoritative technical/engineering guidance to Regional Maintenance Centers (RMC) and Naval Shipyards in resolution of repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems beyond their level of in-house engineering expertise.
- You will assist in performing special analyses and studies either in support of SYSCOM/ISEA or in-house initiatives for the purpose of assisting with developing or evaluating improvements in designs, maintenance procedures, material, etc.
- You will install Ordnance Alterations, Ship Alterations, Machinery Alterations, and Field Changes.
- You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment and tests of new or modernized shipboard systems in an operational evaluation in which the individual has primary responsibility for operations of a system or major subsystems.

- Shipboard investigations phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing, and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem.

- Regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials; and entering spaces below water line.
- Incumbent may be subject to adverse environmental conditions while on board ship such as extreme hot and cold, and excessively humidity, noise, and airborne particles (such as smoke, industrial debris, etc.)
- May be required to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent's responsibility to transport him/her in an expeditious manner between jobs sites in the local area of his/her permanent duty station with reimbursement of costs in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations.
- Incumbent required to obtain and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification via command sponsored CPR training and annual refresher training in accordance with OPNAV 5100.23D.

- Experience applying theoretical and practical knowledge to maintain and repair standard Naval Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence (SSEE) systems.
- Experience performing troubleshooting skills to successfully diagnose and repair standard system failures (CASREPs) that have already proven to be beyond the repair capabilities of the ship's crew (forces afloat).
- Experience conducting standard functional checkouts, assessments, and system qualifications at sea by strictly following established protocols.
- Experience independently generating accurate technical reports, formal correspondence, and maintenance logs that require minimal review or correction by leadership.
- Experience leading and advising to effectively guide and mentor junior technicians during routine Fleet Technical Support (FTS) visits, assessments, and inspections.
