- Mission overview: Supporting the development of agentic AI systems to accelerate research, decision-making, and product deployment at scale
Key Details:
- Location: Remote
- Clearance: Candidates must be eligible for Public Trust as a precondition of employment
- Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
Responsibilities:
- Design and build core agentic workflows, including multi-step reasoning, planning, memory, and tool-use across single and multi-agent systems
- Implement communication patterns for agent collaboration and task handoff
- Build and maintain tool-calling layers, including definitions, schemas, error handling, and result formatting
- Own integration with MCP clients for tool discovery and invocation
- Develop multi-agent workflows that are reliable, observable, and debuggable in production
- Manage LLM orchestration, including prompt construction, context management, model selection, and response parsing
- Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) features such as query formulation, result ranking, and citation grounding
- Develop prompt engineering patterns and system prompts for quality and consistency across multiple LLM providers
- Manage context window budgets, including truncation, summarization, and pagination logic
- Build evaluation pipelines for LLM quality, grounding, safety, and regression testing
- Optimize token economics for cost-efficient prompt and pipeline design
- Translate product requirements into technical designs and ship features end-to-end
- Prototype new AI features, run experiments, and iterate based on user data
- Collaborate with product, UX, applied science, and operations teams
- Ensure observability and reliability through tracing, logging, metrics, and application-level SLOs
- Build fallback and guardrail logic for AI services
- Write production-quality, tested, reviewed, and well-documented code
- Communicate technical decisions clearly and participate in design reviews
- Mentor and unblock team members, ensuring security and compliance in all work
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Proven experience in high-velocity environments shipping complex products end-to-end
- Strong proficiency in Python and at least one other backend language
- Experience with cloud-native systems and containerization
- Experience developing and operating systems on major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, APIs, and software design patterns
- Experience with production LLM applications and multi-agent AI systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with multi-agent or agentic AI systems
- Cloud-native distributed systems experience
- Shipping AI products in production environments
Compensation
- Salary Range: $100,000 - $180,000 annually
