Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, modernization, and sustainment of enterprise travel data applications and backend processing environments. This role focuses on building and enhancing scalable data processing capabilities, supporting cloud-based application environments, and developing solutions that improve the ingestion, parsing, and integration of large-scale travel data.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in software development, cloud computing, and distributed data processing technologies, with the ability to support both ongoing operational activities and modernization initiatives. This position requires expertise in Python development, ETL/data pipeline engineering, AWS cloud services, and application troubleshooting within complex enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise travel data applications and backend processing solutions.
• Build and manage scalable ETL workflows and data pipelines supporting large-scale travel data processing.
• Support Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities, including monitoring application performance, data parsing metrics, and system availability.
• Develop and maintain software solutions using Python and cloud-native technologies within AWS environments.
• Support database maintenance, SQL development, and processing of structured and unstructured data formats including CSV, XML, JSON, AVRO, and Parquet.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 3 software issues through log analysis, issue replication, debugging, and coordination with external vendors and partners.
• Support modernization and migration efforts for operational travel applications, including deployment planning, data validation, and transition activities.
• Participate in technical planning, design validation, feasibility studies, and integration activities across Sponsor environments.
• Develop and validate unit tests and support configuration management and release deployment processes.
• Support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Mandatory Skills
• Demonstrated experience building and managing data pipelines.
• Strong experience with Python development.
• Experience using AWS cloud services and cloud-based computing environments.
• Experience processing data using Apache Spark.
• Experience with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) including PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL and writing SQL queries.
• Experience with Linux administration and shell scripting.
• Experience analyzing and processing multiple file formats including CSV, XML, JSON, AVRO, and Parquet.
• Experience writing and validating unit tests.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with NiFi, Apache Airflow, or similar orchestration tools.
• Experience with Java or Scala.
• Experience administering EMR/Spark clusters.
• Experience performing Spark performance tuning.
• Experience supporting Hive, Iceberg, or similar SQL-access technologies.
• Experience developing cloud-based security solutions.
• Experience following configuration management and code deployment processes.
