SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Duties
Help

• You will conduct safety surveys of all assigned facilities.
• You will assist managers and tactical safety specialists in planning and managing a comprehensive safety and occupational health program.
• You will implement the confined space program, medical surveillance program, the hearing conservation program, and the respiratory protection program.
• You will investigate mishaps involving injuries and/or material damage to determine circumstances involved and the nature of injuries and/or damages.
• You will conduct safety education programs including mishap prevention, and industrial hygiene practices.

• You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
• You will be required to possess a current valid United States driver's license.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
• This is a Term appointment Not to Exceed 2 years.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: planning, developing, and administering a Safety and Occupational Health program AND assisting in safety and/or mishap investigations.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: implementing and conducting a Safety and Occupational Health program AND assisting in safety and/or mishap investigations.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, you may qualify based on education or equivalent combination of education and experience, as follows:

GS-11: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.

GS-09:Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successfully completed an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
